The Indonesian government is planning to introduce a so-called ‘Golden Visa’ to attract well-educated foreigners to Indonesia. This visa is similar to the Second Home Visa. Read on for further information on the new visa and to find out which Indonesia visa you need to apply if you are going as a tourist.
The Golden Visa
The Indonesian government has recently announced the implementation of a so-called Golden Visa. The aim of this visa is to attract more investors from abroad to Indonesia. The Golden Visa will allow foreigners to obtain a permanent residence permit. To be eligible for this visa, foreigners must meet specific requirements and make a financial investment to contribute to the country’s economy. Plans regarding the introduction of this visa have now also been confirmed by Indonesia's Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno. The new visa should be introduced in the near future by the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
Second Home Visa announced last year
The Golden Visa is a variant of the Second Home Visa introduced last December. The Second Home Visa is granted to foreigners who want to stay five to ten years in Indonesia and invest in a second home in the country. Foreign investors can easily apply for their Second Home Visa through the Indonesian Directorate General’s app since 24 December 2022.
Those who apply for a Second Home Visa must prove to possess sufficient financial resources. They must prove to possess at least 2 billion Indonesian rupiahs (about 105,000 GBP) or to own a property in Indonesia. Theoretically, foreign investors may not own land in Indonesia, but they can own a property and lease the land on which the property stands. Upon being granted a Second Home Visa, the holder must prove to possess sufficient financial resources, or to own a property in Indonesia, within 90 days. Moreover, Second Home Visa applicants must pay a tax in the amount of 3 million Indonesian rupiahs, which can be paid before arriving in Indonesia. In fact, the mandatory tax can easily be paid via the Indonesian tax authorities’ online payment system.
